What is Pitta?

In Ayurveda, Pitta is made of Fire and Water elements, the force of transformation. The root word tap means “to heat up”. It governs digestion in every sense: the food in your stomach, the information in your mind, the ambition in your chest. A Pitta-led constitution has a strong appetite, strong opinions, and strong follow-through.

Your Prakriti is the ratio of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha you were born with. Pitta people run hot and move fast, digesting food, ideas, and challenges quicker than most. In Ayurveda, excess Pitta is described as hot, sharp, and intense. When these qualities build up, Ayurvedic tradition recommends coolness and calm to restore balance.

Pitta rises in summer, at midday, and through the prime working years. Ayurveda marks it as the dominant force roughly from the mid-twenties to fifty.

Pitta In A Pair

Most constitutions lead with two doshas, not one. If your quiz result paired Pitta with a second dosha, find your candle below.

Pitta–Vata

Fire + Water + Air

Fire leads, movement follows. You’re driven, precise, and ambitious, with a quick mind that keeps pace with a quick temper. The habit to watch is intensity becoming the default, where rest starts to feel like falling behind. Cooling down and softening the edges works best for you.

Pitta–Kapha

Fire + Water + Earth

Fire sits on a foundation of earth. You pair Pitta’s drive with Kapha’s stamina, chasing goals with enough patience to outlast them. The habit to watch is inflexibility, when intensity and attachment team up and changing course feels like losing. Lightness and looser plans work best for you.

Signs of Pitta Imbalance

Dosha literally translates to “fault”. It points to the parts of us that are most easily thrown off. Pitta is described as hot, sharp, light, and oily. When these qualities accumulate through pressure, heat, or spicy food, it can sometimes become a trap that looks like drive and ambition but leads to burnout. Ayurvedic tradition suggests coolness, sweetness, and calm to bring them back into harmony.

In the mind

  • You get irritated or angry easily
  • You lose patience with others
  • You become highly critical of yourself and others
  • You become obsessed on a goal

In the body

  • You feel hot when no one else does
  • Your skin develops inflammation or breakouts
  • You feel intense hunger and thirst
  • You work non-stop and face burnout

In your days

  • You argue over little things that never bothered you earlier
  • You struggle to relax or let go
  • You become overly competitive and ambitious
  • You push through exhaustion with a fear of falling behind

Recognise a few of these? That’s Vikriti talking, your current state pulling away from your true nature.

How to Balance Pitta Image

How to Balance Pitta

Pitta is hot, sharp, oily, and intense. Everything that balances it is cool, sweet, soft, and unhurried.

Coolness and Moderation

Build margins into the day. Unhurried mornings, real lunch breaks, evenings that end before midnight. Practise leaving one thing gracefully unfinished. It will still be there tomorrow, and so will you.

The Pitta Plate

Favour sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes. Cooling foods suit you best: leafy greens, cucumbers, sweet melons, coconut, oats, and basmati rice. Go gently on chilli, coffee, alcohol, and vinegar.

The Pitta Space

Cool the rooms you work in. Mint green, soft teal, pearl white, and slate settle a Pitta eye. Sip water from silver or stainless steel, and keep your desk out of the midday glare.

The Cooling Fragrance

Scent works directly on the limbic system, the part of your brain that processes mood and sense memory. Light the Pitta candle when the workday ends, at the same hour if you can. The first breath of jasmine becomes the boundary between doing and resting.

FAQs

What does Ayurveda say about Pitta qualities?

Pitta is the force of transformation. Its qualities are hot, sharp, light, oily, and intense. Its functions are digestion, metabolism, and mental sharpness. When Pitta qualities over-dominate, Ayurvedic tradition recommends introducing their opposites like coolness, sweetness, and calm through diet, routine, and sensory practices.

Which scents does Ayurveda traditionally pair with Pitta?

Cooling florals and soft woods. Ayurvedic tradition associates Pitta with jasmine, rose, lavender, and sandalwood, aromas that calm rather than excite. The Palm Lights Pitta candle blends these with sandalwood for a balm-like, meditative base designed specifically for Pitta constitutions.

When should I light the Pitta candle, and is it really for me?

Light it at midday if Pitta’s qualities show up in your life. These could be irritability, a short temper, acidity, or a mind that will not slow down. Pair it with a real break, water, and a few minutes away from the screen.

This candle is built for your Prakriti (your birth constitution). But if your current Vikriti (what you’re experiencing right now) is different, order the one matching what you need now instead, like the more targeted Pitta Vata and Pitta Kapha candles. The three-candle, mix-and-match bundle gives you the option to explore. Not sure which is right for you? Take the dosha quiz to find out.

What is the Pitta candle made of?

Certified sustainable RSPO palm wax, a cotton wick, and an in-house blend of Jasmine, Lavender, and Sandalwood essential oils. Vegan, non-toxic, and hand-poured in small batches in the UAE.

How is Pitta candle different from your signature collection candles?

The Pitta candle is formulated for a specific constitution, with every note chosen to work together for that dosha. We’ve paired cooling florals with soft woods at proportions designed specifically for Pitta led constitutions.

Our signature candles are built around individual moods or scents; the Pitta candle is built around you, your constitution’s nature and its traditional Ayurvedic balance practices. If you’re a Pitta led person, this candle works with your whole system, not just a single moment.

Can I reorder the same candle, and will the blend stay the same?

Yes. Every batch of the Pitta candle is hand-poured with the same essential oil ratios and formula, so your blend stays consistent. If you’ve found your candle and want to keep using it by refilling it or reordering, your candle will be the same. You can avail 25% discount on refills if you reuse the original Murano inspired glass vessel.

What’s the burn time, and how do I care for it?

The Pitta candle burns for approximately 30 to 35 hours. Let the first burn reach a full melt pool across the surface to prevent tunnelling. Trim the wick to about 5mm before each lighting, keep each burn under 4 hours, and place away from drafts. Store away from direct sun, the essential oils stay true from first light to last.

What if I’m not certain Pitta leads my blend?

Take the Dosha Quiz. Eighteen questions reveal your unique ratio of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and match you to the candle made for your constitution. Most people have at least two dominant doshas in their blueprint. In either case, the Ayurvedic principle of opposites applies. Depending upon your current Vikriti, our more targeted Pitta Vata and Pitta Kapha might be a better fit.
